OneFreePlace · Tool #124

Hours between two times—without hidden midnight or payroll assumptions.

Calculate exact clock time to the second, handle overnight sessions explicitly, subtract multiple breaks, compare exact and rounded hours, see decimal hours and total minutes, inspect how the span crosses midnight and optionally estimate value from an hourly rate.

✓ Seconds precision✓ Explicit overnight control ✓ Multiple breaks✓ Exact + rounded shown separately ✓ Decimal hours

Time span

Enter your start and end times.

End-day interpretationControl midnight behavior instead of relying on a hidden assumption.
Auto mode treats an earlier end time as overnight. Equal times mean 0 hours unless the 24-hour option is enabled.
Break deductionsFlexible entries: 30m, 1:15, 1h 15m, or 00:30:00.
Optional comparison settingsExact result always remains visible.
Rounding is shown as a separate comparison only. It never changes the exact duration. Use whatever rounding policy your own system requires.

Clock-span anatomy—

Exact vs common formats

One duration, shown several ways so you can use the representation your timesheet, invoice or schedule expects.

H:MM:SS—human-readable exact duration
Decimal hours—e.g. 7h 45m = 7.75 hours
Decimal minutes—seconds preserved as fractions
Optional value—rate × exact net hours

12-hour / 24-hour clock view

The calculator uses exact numeric clock values internally and displays both common representations for easy checking.

Day offset—days added to the end clock
Midnight crossings—number of calendar midnights crossed

Midnight and equal-time rules

Auto: if the end clock is earlier than the start, the calculator treats it as next day. If both clocks are equal, the result is zero unless you explicitly select the 24-hour interpretation.

Same day: an end earlier than the start is invalid rather than silently rolling over. Next day / +2 days: useful when you already know the day offset.

What this tool deliberately does not assume

This is a clock-time calculator, not a timezone-aware timestamp calculator. Without calendar dates and a timezone, it cannot know whether daylight-saving time skipped or repeated an hour. It also does not decide which break or rounding rules apply to your employer, contract or jurisdiction.

i
Exact and rounded time are kept separate. The exact result comes only from start, end, day-offset interpretation and break deductions. Optional rounding is shown alongside it so a rounding rule can never silently overwrite the actual elapsed clock time.
