Utilities / Travel Time Calculator
OneFreePlace · Tool #128

Calculate the journey you will actually experience—not just distance ÷ speed.

Build a mixed-unit route with different segment speeds, local delays, planned stops and recurring breaks. See moving time, total elapsed time, ETA, effective trip speed, an arrive-by speed requirement, slowdown/speed-up scenarios, a proportional route timeline and a separate distance-speed-time solver.

Route builder

Model each part of the journey at its own speed.

Minutes. Auto breaks are inserted after each full moving-time interval, but never exactly at journey end. Set “Auto break every” or “Each auto break” to 0 to disable.
Clock planLocal clock arithmetic; no timezone is assumed.
ETA uses your entered departure clock. The deadline solver asks what common multiplier would have to be applied to all moving speeds while keeping delays/stops/break rules intact.

Arrive-by deadline check

When you add a deadline, the solver keeps your route distances, route delays, stops and automatic-break rule, then finds the common speed multiplier needed to arrive by that clock time.

Add an arrive-by deadlineYou will see required speed change, available time and feasibility here.

What-if speed scenarios

See how the whole trip changes if every moving segment averages slower or faster. Stops, route delays and the recurring-break rule are recalculated.

Quick distance · speed · time solver

Use the classic relationship distance = speed × time independently of the route above. Solve any one variable from the other two.

What is—and is not—being estimated

The arithmetic is exact for the values you enter. Real travel time still depends on the quality of your distance and average-speed assumptions. For roads, use realistic route distance and average speed rather than speed-limit or brief peak speed. For ferries, trains or transfers, place waiting/boarding time in the segment-delay field.

This tool intentionally does not estimate fuel or trip cost; those belong in the dedicated OneFreePlace fuel/trip-cost tools.

i
Automatic breaks are based on moving time, not elapsed clock time. For example, a 4-hour moving journey with a break every 2 hours gets one automatic break because a second break would occur exactly at journey end. A 4h 1m moving journey gets two. This rule is shown explicitly so the result is reproducible.
