Flooring takeoff from rooms to boxes, rows and real cuts.

Combine rooms, subtract islands or fixed exclusions, plan waste and future spares separately, calculate boxes and project cost, then use a floating-plank layout lab for expansion gaps, balanced edge rows and stagger checks without pretending one manufacturer’s installation rule fits every floor.

Project takeoff

Measure the floor first. Then plan the cartons.

Rooms / floor areasExclusions are subtracted per room copy for islands, hearths or other areas that will not receive the flooring.
Flooring productUse carton coverage printed on the package when available. Plank dimensions unlock the layout lab and plank-count diagnostics.
Plank dimensions are in inches; box coverage is in ft².
Installation allowancePlanning presets are editable. Room shape, board defects, diagonal/pattern work and usable offcuts can move real waste materially.
Floating-plank layout labExpansion gap and end-joint reference are deliberately editable. Product-specific installation instructions control.
Expansion gap, stagger and joint-offset references are in inches. A 1/4 in gap and 6 in joint offset are examples seen in some product instructions—not universal requirements.
Underlayment & transitionsNot every floor uses separate underlayment. Products with attached pad or product-specific systems can differ.
Underlayment coverage is in ft²/roll.

Shopping plan

Whole-box rounding, separate underlayment, transitions and optional entered costs.

Plank layout lab

Reference-room rows, usable dimensions, balanced rip widths and end-joint stagger checks.

Starter schedule

A planning sequence for the first rows based on the entered stagger. Confirm the actual sequence against product instructions and offcut usability.

Practical boundaries

Product instructions beat calculator defaultsExpansion gaps, joint spacing, acclimation/conditioning, subfloor flatness and underlayment requirements can differ by product and installation method.

Fixed cabinets and islands are installation-specificWhether flooring runs beneath fixed objects depends on product and installation method. Use exclusions to match the actual plan.
Plan explicitly
Carton consistency mattersColor, shade and production-lot consistency can matter for many flooring products. A future spare reserve is kept separate from installation waste.

The box estimate and the plank-layout lab answer different questions.Purchase quantity is based on net floor area plus explicit waste/spare allowance and real carton packaging. The layout lab helps you anticipate rows and cuts, but it does not claim every offcut can be reused across rooms.
