Portable metadata. Exports are built from the merged normalized record while the JSON report also preserves provider provenance and raw responses.
Batch lookup runs a small concurrency queue to avoid hammering public metadata services. Each successful record can be opened in the main workbench.
Smart mode. OneFreePlace queries Crossref and DataCite public endpoints in parallel. If only one registry has the DOI, that record is used. If both return metadata, the tool selects the more complete normalized record while showing field differences and preserving both raw responses.
No metadata invention. Missing authors, dates, pages, ORCIDs, licenses or publishers remain missing. The quality score measures completeness only—it is not an accuracy or academic-quality score.
Citation drafts. The six quick styles are convenience drafts from normalized metadata. Use the dedicated OneFreePlace citation generators for edge cases, source-type-specific rules, locators and institution/journal overrides.
Privacy. DOI searches are sent directly from your browser to the selected public registry APIs. Your local lookup library stays in this browser unless you export it.
